Implant Dentures
Are Dental Implant retained Dentures for me?

What are Dental Implant Retained Dentures?

Implant Retained Dentures are a great solution for denture wearers.  For our patients who have experienced extensive tooth loss, we generally recommend a couple of implants to help stabilise and tighten your removable dentures

The traditional dentures we make for you are a great fit and can have very good suction, however an implant-retained denture can offer additional security and can guarantee a tight fit.  Usually this is done with a number of small Dental Implants, usually two to four on the lower jaw and four to six on the upper jaw.

How does the procedure work?

Everything starts with a plan, discussing your options and checking what will work for you.  We would initially carry out a consultation with you and discuss what your desired result can be, what issues you have come across as a denture wearer and what issues implants could resolve.  We would then arrange for a scan of your mouth to check if your underlying bone would be suitable for the procedure.

Once we know you are a candidate for implants we would work through the denture stages with you and design and make your dentures.  It is important to ensure you have the desired smile and facial support before we commence the surgery part.    The installation of the implants themselves is generally completed within an hour or two. This first stage requires the installation of dental implants through surgery and some adjustments to the denture fitting surface to allow for healing. Then once the Implant sites have healed after approximately 3- 6 months, the upper part of the Dental Implants are exposed and an attachment is put in place.  This attachment is then picked up on the denture.  The dentures are adjusted to seat on the implants with another small attachment in the denture.  This may seem complicated, but it is really very straightforward, and we explain every step of your journey before and during every appointment.

What is a dental implant?

Denture Implants are bio-compatible, thus non-toxic and not rejected by the body. They are long term solutions when comes to teeth loss since they are designed to replace structure loss and provide stability. Dental Implants are small titanium posts, surgically fixed into the jawbone to provide support for replacement teeth.

3 Key Benefits of Implant Supported Dentures

Confidence

One of the greatest advantages of implants is that they behave like natural teeth and restore full chewing power. The tightness can add to confidence and remove issues around loose or moving dentures

Prevention of Further Deterioration

An aftereffect of missing tooth roots is that bone loss occurs in the jaw. When placing a denture implant the root as well as the tooth is replaced and so the necessary simulation for natural bone growth is provided.  Implants can retain and provide support to the bone.

Denture Implants improve ability to chew

One of the greatest advantages of implants is that they behave like natural teeth and restore full chewing power
