Healthy mouth and good oral health are important even more now than ever before!
Did you know that poor oral health can put you at risk for heart disease or pneumonia? Oral health is about so much more than just the health of the mouth, teeth, and gums. There is a connection between oral hygiene and health in the rest of your body. Bad oral health can be connected with heart disease, respiratory infections/ pneumonia, diabetes, dementia and more. During this crucial period, with Covid_19 outbreak, it is very important to practice good oral hygiene to stay protected.
Why would we make our own mouthwash?
During this period, we should practice good oral health and keep our mouth healthy. A good mouthwash and gargling contributes to good oral health. So that you’re not worrying about getting out to the shops we can make our own mouthwash which is just as good as shop bought, by using pure ingredients that we all have at home and we can boost our oral health.
When /what for can we use to make out homemade mouthwash?
This natural, homemade, alcohol-free mouthwash can be used to cleanse, refresh, heal and more. More specific mouthwash is ideal to use it:
✔️ For a dental pain as a way to soothe your mouth until your dentist is able to see you.
✔️ For a sore throat to gargle with something that will help lessen the pain.
✔️ As a way to clean out your mouth and raise the pH of your mouth after eating.
✔️ To freshen your breath.
What ingredients do we need? How do we make our own mouthwash?
There is a simple way to make your own mouth wash with ingredients that we all have at home!
We will need:
✔️500ml / 2 cups of distilled water.
✔️ 1 teaspoon salt
✔️2 teaspoons baking soda.
✔️an empty glass bottle with screw cap.
✔️10 drops of peppermint essential oil (totally optional)
Salt
We use salt mainly because of its healing properties. Salt promote healing, reduce inflammation and alkalize the mouth destroying the acid-forming bacteria that cause cavities. Finally, salt also helps in preserving the homemade mouthwash.
Baking Soda
Baking soda contributes to balancing oral pH. Baking soda has a pH around 9. It also helps to alkalize the mouth and protect from bacteria that cause cavities.
Drops of peppermint oil
Use peppermint essential oil to give your mouth a fresh and clean feeling with no alcohol addition needed.
It is recommended to use the mouthwash after brushing your teeth. Mouthwash can also be used as a gargle for a sore throat. It is not recommended to use the mouthwash in children under 6 years old.
